Bullitron Part 1

Splat Space is in the process of building a Winnitron. A while back I was at the Lo Pub in my home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba and noticed an arcade cabinet running some kind of game launcher. I first I thought that it was a MAME cabinet but it wasn’t running a launcher that I could recognize so I looked up the Winnitron project and pretty much decided then that I would build one for Durham. In addition to hosting the cabinet at our hackerspace, Durham has many establishments in the downtown area that I could see hosting our version of the Winnitron. If you see this post and are interested in hosting the cabinet in a space open to the public, please contact us at info@splatspace.org.

When Hackerspace Charlotte was preparing to move to a new location they had several non-functional arcade cabinets that they were looking to get rid of. A few of our members went to Charlotte for an event at their hackerspace and brought home a NBA Jam/Gauntlet Legends cabinet.

The cabinet was mostly gutted and a donated PC was installed.

More work has been completed and once I’ve taken a few more pictures I’ll post part 2 of our work on this exciting project. If we continue to make progress like we’ve made in the last couple weeks we hope to bring this down to Maker Faire North Carolina.
